Police on Sunday morning announced the arrest of the terrorist who wounded seven people, including two seriously, in a shooting attack outside Jerusalem’s Old City overnight.
Following a 6 hour long manhunt, police said in a statement that the assailant turned himself in along with the gun apparently used in the shooting. A photo of the weapon released by police showed a pistol on the floor of a car.
According to Hebrew media reports, the gunman is an East Jerusalem resident who took a cab to a police station where he turned himself in. He was identified as Amir Sidawi, 26. The terrorist was released from jail two years prior.
PM Lapid: “There is one conclusion from this incident, as from previous incidents: Whoever harms Israeli citizens has nowhere to hide. We will pursue them, find them wherever they are, and deal with them to the fullest extent of the law.
The terrorist turned himself in to the Israel Police this morning and is currently being questioned. In a situation assessment that I held, it was pointed out that this was a lone assailant, a resident of the city with a criminal background.
