First Shomer Shabbos NCAA Football Player Seen Dancing on Sidelines

Sam Salz, originally from Philadelphia and currently living in Texas, is the running back for Texas A&M’s football team. He has been training about 16-25 hours a week since October in order to fulfill his dreams of playing in the NCAA.

Salz is the first NCAA football player who is Shomer Shabbos, wears a Yarmulka on the field, and has a love for learning and Judaism.

He chose #39 because of the Lamud Tes Melachos (39 types of work that are forbidden to do on Shabbos), and he won’t play on Shabbos at all, which is about half the games.

Yossi Lazaroff, also known as the “Aggie Rabbi”, the campus Rabbi at Texas A&M University, shared the following video.

We wish Salz continued success on and off the field! Go Texas A&M!
