Atlantic Beach Bridge to Implement E-ZPass Usage & New Toll Structure For 2023

9

New Toll Rates for the Nassau County Bridge Authority (NCBA) will take effect at Midnight on January 1, 2023 at the Atlantic Beach Bridge.

NCBA toll structure will deliver support for critical infrastructure improvements for the Atlantic Beach Bridge. The implementation of an Electronic Tolling System, E-ZPass, will also roll out in mid-year 2023 and will make the customer’s driving experience safer and timelier. The new rates are the first increase in Atlantic Beach Bridge tolls since January 1, 2007, roughly 17 years ago. With consideration to the current impacts of inflation, the new toll rates will provide support for a number of upcoming capital improvements at the Atlantic Beach Bridge notably:

– E-ZPass/Toll Plaza refurbishment $5.0 million
– Bulkhead replacement $5.0 million
– Bridge Cleaning, Painting and Road Work $6.0 million

The new toll rate schedule was approved in 2022 after a rigorous review process and there will be no further planned increases for the next five years. The Authority receives no operating funding through state or federal tax dollars, with nearly all of its revenue coming through tolls.

Tolls are reinvested back into capital improvements on the Authority’s Atlantic Beach Bridge span, ensuring the critical components of the infrastructure can continue serving the Nassau County Region for decades to come.

  1. Where are the originals of the requests for quotes on these three upcoming improvements / maintenance items? Where are the non-redacted copies of every bid submitted for each of these three stated items, which have been used to substantiate these increases?

Where are the engineering reports which either justify or substantiate the necessity of these massive additional expenses being set upon the public, and especially, upon the residents of the adjacent areas?

  2. I work in long Beach i live in Brooklyn that means when the annual Decal is discontinued I will have to pay at leat 3,000 thousand dollars a year to cross this bridge, I think is time to put floats to my car and go through the water instead.

  3. Jose: you can get to Long Beach for free – take the Northern State to the Meadowbrook Southbound to the end. It’s a longer trip but it costs nothing.

  4. This is some horse shit right here. Much like Jose, I work in Long Beach and live in the rockaways. In fact, pretty close to that bridge and have to take it twice a day at least. It would add an additional 45 mins and 10 miles each way to avoid taking this stupid bridge. They really should’ve taken into account those of us that live in the low income areas of Rockaway. It truly baffles me that a person that lives on the far eastern boarder of Nassau Co. can pay less than those of use that live within a mile of said bridge. And we get the pleasure of having our rates DOUBLE!!! Where is the logic in that?!

  5. Why is toll even here it is the only toll in all of Nassau and Suffolk counties. This is just another New York State scam I can’t wait to retire and get the hell away from this place

  6. Is a different EZPASS registration required for the Atlantic Beach bridge ?
Can I use my current Ny EZ Pass. When the bridge starts accepting EZPASS?
