Officer Meir Green, an Orthodox Police officer, helped pull a man who had fallen on the tracks up to safety just before the train arrived. Green wears a Yarmulka and Tzitzis at all times and has been doing so since he joined the force just over three years ago.
Officers were alerted to a fallen victim at the F line’s Smith-9th Street station in Carroll Gardens. NYPD provided footage (see below) of Greens’ body cam running through the streets to get there in time to save the fallen man. Although the man had been slightly unconscious from the fall, Green and another good samaritan were able to carefully pull him up from the tracks and out of harm’s way before medical personnel arrived on the scene.
Inspector Richie Taylor, the highest-ranking Orthodox Police member, expressed his appreciation for the heroic deeds of his fellow Orthodox officer:
“I’ve known Meir Green for almost 20 years, and I’ve seen him grow as a police officer,” Taylor said. “I’m not surprised to see his quick thinking and swift action in saving this person’s life. Police Officer Green represents what it means to be one of New York’s Finest.”
