Avremi Lehrer regularly helps patients and staff at the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon put on tefillin.
Most of the time, when he offers, people are happy to take part in the mitzvah, but there is one doctor who always politely declines.
The Barzilai Hospital was the epicenter of the medical response following the horrific terror attacks on October 7th.
After several very intense days Avremi brought Tefillin for the staff members and victims to take part.
The doctor who never put on tefillin approached and asked if he could don them. “When Jews are murdered just for being Jews, the response is to strengthen our connection to G-d.”
As he put on tefillin, Avremi burst into tears and embraced him.
