Ten IDF soldiers were tragically killed yesterday, while fighting in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll in the ground offensive to 115 Korbonos R”L.
Below is a list of the ten soldiers:
Lt. Col. Tomer Grinberg HY”D, 35, the commander of the Golani Brigade’s 13th Battalion, from Almog.
Maj. Roei Meldasi HY”D, 23, a company commander in the Golani Brigade’s 13th Battalion, from Afula.
Maj. Moshe Avram Bar On HY”D, 23, a company commander in the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion, from Ra’anana.
Sgt. Achia Daskal HY”D, 19, a soldier in the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion, from Haifa.
Cpt. Liel Hayo HY”D, 22, a platoon commander in the Golani Brigade’s 51st Battalion, from Shoham.
Maj. Ben Shelly HY”D, 26, a squad commander in the Israeli Air Force’s Unit 669, from Kidron.
Sgt. First Class Rom Hecht HY”D, 20, of the Israeli Air Force’s Unit 669, from Givatayim.
Staff Sgt. Oriya Yaakov HY”D, 19, of the Combat Engineering Corps’ 614th Battalion, from Ashkelon.
Col. Itzhak Ben Basat HY”D, 44, head of the Golani Brigade.
Nine of the soldiers listed above were killed in Shuja’iyya, in the Gaza Strip.
The unit was operating in a densely constructed area of the town when they came under fire. Additional fighters came into the structures to evacuate the wounded when an explosive device was activated, causing further fatalities. The terrorists who were ultimately killed had emerged from a tunnel shaft.
