Mi Kiamcha Yisrael: Electricity Powered by The People

0

Despite entering the third month since the outbreak of Operation Iron Swords, the Israeli population and Jewish brethren both in Israel and abroad, are sharing each other’s burden more than ever. There has been no respite in kindness, with countless stories and heartwarming actions from stranger to stranger- or more accurately, from brother to brother.

Chevras HaChashmal, known as Israel Electric Company (IEC), provides power to over 3 million people within the country and supports the majority of the Israeli economy. During the recent turbulent times, Meir Spiegler, CEO of the company reassured customers that they have nothing to worry about. “The employees of the Electric Company work around the clock, day and night, to repair the damage caused to the electricity grids, in many cases under missile barrages, in order to restore the electricity supply to the residents,” he stated in an open letter to the public.

Additionally, Spiegler modified company policy to accommodate citizens. IEC will not disconnect debtor customers, nor pursue those who cannot pay their bills at this time.

Anyone that has difficulty paying off a bill can request a simplified payment plan, without the usual interest. Spiegler also enacted a special accommodation for customers who were evacuated from their homes in the settlements and gave an extra 30 days for those residents to pay their electric bill. “We share in the grief of the families who lost their loved ones, wish for the return of all the missing and abducted, wish a full recovery for the wounded, and strengthen the hands of the IDF, the security forces, and the citizens of Israel,” Spiegler wrote. “As an inseparable part of the people of Israel… we have reduced bureaucracy for the sake of improving the service and adopted decisions that make it easier for you. We hope for quieter and safer days.”
