21 Local FD Units Respond to Massive 5 Alarm Fire Early This Morning in Valley Stream

A firefighter sustained injuries when a blaze erupted in Valley Stream, affecting a row of stores.

Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, seven stores on Rockaway Avenue were engulfed in heavy flames, prompting the Valley Stream Fire Department to escalate the response to a fifth alarm.

Chief Patrick Scanlon mentioned that the fire originated in a deli, spreading to the cockloft—a space between the ceiling and the roof—making containment challenging.

The effort involved 21 fire departments with 150 firefighters, who deployed five hose lines to extinguish the fire amid difficulties posed by heavy tin ceilings.

As always, we thank all our dedicated firefighters!
