Introducing the NYPD’s Innovative Parking Enforcement Tool: The Barnacle Device

2

The NYPD has introduced a novel parking enforcement device that attaches to a vehicle’s windshield, known as the “barnacle device.”

This tool immobilizes vehicles that violate parking regulations, offering a new approach to addressing parking congestion and dealing with vehicles that pose hazards or nuisances to the community.

The mechanism utilizes two robust suction cups with industrial-grade strength, offering a remarkable 1,000 pounds of suction power, akin to the grip of a marine crustacean, effectively obstructing the driver’s view. The sole method to disengage it is by settling the fee, which can be conveniently accomplished through online or phone transactions.

Chief of Transportation: “Tonight was the NYPD’s 1st deployment of a windshield boot aka the “Barnacle Device.” It’s used to immobilize vehicles violating parking regulations.
This allows us to hold those accountable, reduce parking congestion & address cars that are a nuisance & hazard to the community.”
