During Shabbas, three synagogues and a museum in New York City were targeted with false bomb threats.
The first threat was reported at approximately 3:15 pm at Congregation Rodeph Sholom near Central Park. The synagogue was evacuated, but the police later confirmed that the threat was unfounded.
Shortly after, a similar threat was reported at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, a synagogue located in the Upper West Side. The NYPD searched the unoccupied building and determined that the bomb threat was false.
At 5:15 pm, The Brooklyn Heights Synagogue on Remsen Street received a bomb threat. Three employees were evacuated, and authorities confirmed that no explosives were found on the property. Fifteen minutes later, the Brooklyn Museum, an art museum situated in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, also received a bomb threat, which police later determined to be false.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul stated that her office is collaborating closely with law enforcement to monitor the situation.
We are actively monitoring a number of bomb threats at synagogues in New York. Threats have been determined not to be credible, but we will not tolerate individuals sowing fear & antisemitism. Those responsible must be held accountable for their despicable actions.
