News 12 Long Island reports that Lawrence has seen a positivity rate of 5.2% over the past three days. Statewide, the rate of infection is 1.2% and in Nassau, it is even lower.
New York State will pursue “targeted efforts” to attack clusters of new coronavirus cases that threaten to reignite community spread, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Tuesday, as he launched a 14-day push of stringent measures in virus “hot spots” and the communities surrounding them.
Governor Cuomo just sent out new measures that will restrict activities at Shuls and public gatherings as well as close schools and shut down business activity, depending on the level of spread measured in recent testing results for COVID-19.
Today we establish clear limits for areas where we see high positivity: The Cluster Action Initiative.
Locations will be categorized either Red, Orange, or Yellow, based on proximity to the cluster.

The governor’s new measures would likely limit Minyanim in many local Shuls up to 10 people per Minyan. We’re still waiting on news from local Shuls, as this news just came out.
News Reporters have been seen all throughout the community (see photos below), ahead of a likely visit from the Governor with local Leaders to address the current situation.
A CBS news crew reports live from Central Ave. today in Cedarhurst:

New12 Reporter reported the lack of mask-wearing seen locally:
Working on a @News12LI exclusive today: #Lawrence , a village in #NassauCounty , has seen a spike in new #coronavirus cases over the last 3 days. @NYGovCuomo will speak with community leaders today. We’ve been here all morning and most residents we’ve seen have been w/o masks. pic.twitter.com/hhS5cQ6NjE

According to CDC guidelines, however, when one is outdoors on a walk and able to maintain a proper social distance of 6 feet, there is no requirement to wear a mask. You will see the same in most communities in the same scenario (not just Lawrence).
We urge the community to continue wearing masks when unable to properly social distance. For the most part, the community schools and leaders have done a fantastic job enforcing this. We hope this current surge begins to decrease and the positivity rates begin to drop.
If everyone residing in the Lawrence zip code gets a negative COVID test result within the next several days then we can drop under 5% and stop the closure from happening
Did we need to let it come to this? Doctors begged, Rabbis, and many readers of this journal… have respectfully asked let’s show respect for one another and mask just mask up outdoors and in our daily errands but did we ALL listen?? Now what…
Put a damn mask on!
Is this the way we speak
To one another ? We are a community! We need to be kinder to one another . Teach one another and be supportive . I am a healthcare worker and part of the community. Be kind .
So is the choice, be kind in your speech, or possibly kill some one with underlying symptoms. Personally I would rather error on the side of not killing someone. Put a damn mask on and limit the minyanim .
Why should anyone get tested if they feel good?? Typical politician tactic!! We need to get the Democrats out of office now
The theory is that if more people test and have negative results, then it will bring down the relative % of positive cases against those that have tested overall. I don’t know of they look at that but the likelyhood is that many people testing will just mean more people test positive, even without any symptoms.
There are zip codes in Orange county and Rockland that are at 10-20% but no one is mentioning these areas at all.
Why?
Yes agreed , let’s limit the minyanim as long as we can still “fress” on central avenue!
One message to the media: LEAVE THE 5 towns TOGETHER WITH YOUR DISGUSTING LIBERAL AGENDA AND NEVER EVER COME BACK!
Masks don’t work
So, if I understand the commenters here correctly: testing for a highly contagious and potentially virus, and seeking to enforce measures to keep the public healthy and uninfected are acts of Democratic politicians and those with a liberal agenda.
Good to know you agree that the Democrats and the left are those in our communities who are pro-life.
Umm, note for “Why”:
There are red zones in Rockland and Orange counties too.

Even if people think that they are correct in not donning a mask, is it worth the chillul Hashem fallout that we now have. To quote, Dr. Phil, “would would you rather be right or be happy?”

Problem is none of the things the Democrats advocate do anything to mitigate the virus. Masks don’t help in lowering cases. Aerosols go around and through almost all masks. Quarantines only delay people from getting it. Once the quarantine is over then people will just go right back to getting it. Shutting down schools doesn’t help. COVID will never go away. Just like the Flu doesn’t go away. As long as hospitals aren’t overwhelmed and deaths aren’t spiking we don’t need to shut down. This is preposterous. We need to open back up. We can’t be afraid of a virus forever. Especially when the death rate is less than 1% and 94% of people who die from COVID have 1 of more comorbidities. This is getting out of hand. All Democrats have to go. They don’t use common sense.
