Since 1982, Nassau County has officially opened its first training facility for the police department. The Nassau County Police Department & all of Nassau Law Enforcement will use the facility for training and counterterrorism efforts.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran joined with Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder and other officials for the ribbon cutting on the Nassau County Training and Intelligence Center. The 89,000-square-foot facility on the Nassau Community College campus in Garden City will have state-of-the-art training which Curran said “will keep Nassau the safest County in America”.
The Nassau County Police Department Foundation sent out the following statement:
Today was the official ribbon cutting for the David S Mack Center for Training & Intelligence located on the grounds of Nassau Community College. Since inception of our foundation in 2008, we have been raising money to complete this state-of-the-art facility so desperately needed by the men and women of the Nassau County Police Department.
It is with great pride that we stand here today to officially acknowledge the building and the training that will take place within its walls. The community partnerships that will be enhanced through the use of our gymnasium facility and Conference space bringing police and the community together will make this facility second to none. Further, the collegiate partnership with Nassau Community College will help to further diversify the department.
With over $5 million dollars invested and counting and for over 12 years, we have worked tirelessly to ensure that the 13th largest Police Department in the country has its own training facility worthy of the men and women who serve this county. We are honored that First Assistant Commissioner David S Mack helped to ensure this project’s completion and with that the building is named in his honor.
We are grateful to all the individuals who have supported this endeavor and believed in this facility that will make the Nassau County Police Department the best trained Police Department in the country – fitting for a county that has been deemed the safest in America.
After approximately 32 months of construction we are proud to open this facility to the entire Nassau County community.
We have finally made it, the first ever training facility for the police department and all of law-enforcement in the county. It was a great day as history was made. This building will act as a bridge to our very diverse community as we train together and learn from each other!! pic.twitter.com/e2twEUv52l

Until this facility's completion, @NassauCountyPD had not had its own permanent training facility in almost four decades.
From my very first day as County Executive, I have been pushing to get a state-of-the-art training and intelligence center built – and we got the job done. pic.twitter.com/ymyIuwH2iv
