White House Appoints New Jewish Liaison

Shelley Greenspan, a policy advisor for Partnerships and Global Engagement at the National Security Council, was named the new White House Jewish liaison, a White House spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.

She is expected to replace Chanan Weissman, the current liaison, who announced that he will return to the State Department on July 29.

Chanan Weissman bids farewell:

This Friday, July 29, will mark my last day on the job before I transition back to the Department of State.

I am honored beyond words to have served in this capacity on behalf of an Administration I so deeply admire and as a link to a community with whom I so deeply identify. As I wrap up my time, I’m excited to hand over the baton to an individual in whom I have every confidence will serve in this role with distinction. We will have more on that front in the very near future.

As I depart, I’m mindful of President Biden’s presidential proclamation marking Jewish American Heritage Month:
“The Jewish American story, and the story of our Nation as a whole, is fueled by faith, resilience, and hope. It is a story defined by a firm belief in possibilities, the resolve to make real the promise of America for all Americans, and a commitment to perfecting our Union, heeding the timeless words of Rabbi Tarfon, the first-century scholar who taught “‘It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it.’”
Thank you – members of the American Jewish community – for all that you do, and all that you will continue to do, on behalf of this great Nation.

Chanan Weissman
