Massive Catalytic Converter Bust: Brothers From Long Beach Arrested

4

Law enforcement announced the seizure of thousands of stolen catalytic converters, culminating in a year-long investigation. Several truckloads were full of the stolen converters, and millions of dollars were also seized from the location.

Thousands of converters were stolen and seized from Island Park and Huntington warehouses. They were harvesting stolen parts for the precious metals inside the converters, which have skyrocketed in value in recent years.

Police partnered with homeland security, and the postal service searched the homes and businesses of two brothers from Long Beach and a local auto shop owner purchasing the converters from thieves and selling them, shipping them out of state.

Law enforcement seized four million dollars in cash from their homes and another ten million in their bank accounts.
Many locals have experienced the frustration of having their converters stolen, from 89 thefts in 2020 to 2,250 this year alone.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman: “BIG BUST! Thousands of Catalytic Converters and millions in cash were seized by the Nassau County Police Department today. We’re hunting down the thieves to stop this madness and protect your vehicles. I thank our investigative partners, including District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Homeland Security Investigations and the U.S. Postal Inspectors Service.”
