Three NYPD officers were injured late Saturday night, just blocks from the New Years’ Times Square festivities.
A 19-year-old attempted to strike one officer over the head with a machete in an unprovoked attack. The suspect then struck two additional officers before one officer shot the suspect hitting him in the shoulder. The suspect is being treated for his injuries, Sewell said.
The incident happened just before 10 PM, at 52nd Street and 8th Avenue.
The officers were rushed to the hospital in stable condition.
The machete was recovered from the scene, the investigation is ongoing at this time.
