LIRR Far Rockway Branch Update

9

Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has just informed us about the upcoming track work on the Far Rockaway branch. This essential maintenance work is scheduled to take place from Friday, the 19th of May, starting at approximately 11:00pm, until Monday, the 22nd of May, concluding at approximately 3:00am. This will be the final outage as part of the current workplan.

During this period, there will be no train service available from Valley Stream to Far Rockaway. However, the LIRR has made alternative arrangements to ensure minimal disruption to your travel plans. Buses will be provided as substitutes for the train service in both directions. Please refer to the details below for more information:

Customers wishing to travel east along the Far Rockaway branch can take a train to Valley Stream and transfer to a bus for service to all points east.

Customers traveling west can board a bus at any of the stations along the branch and take a train from Valley Stream to points west.

The track work will be primarily located in and around Valley Stream, however, there will also be a number of other tasks performed along the branch.

  1. The A 8 th ave Express ,for a small fee is way faster into manhattan than any LIRR unless your destination is Grand Central

  2. If you’re talking about A train from Mott Ave., Then it is by no means faster. There is no parking around there (no more lot by the station) and it is not too safe.

  3. Bus to the valley stream train last week it was horrendous we we had a driver that was on the phone most of the time and hardly waited anytime at any of the stops for people to get on I mean if you weren’t there you lost it and it was not a good experience.

Also I might add this that I hate very much the Grand Central LIRR
railroad although it’s very pretty and clean and it’s more convenient for me on the east side both for work and where I live I have found it very hard to get around and everything is a long walk you should have little carts bringing people around it’s horrible how people are treated now millions of dollars billions of dollars and it’s impossible to get around 42nd Street Grand Central station.

  4. Anonymous 10:04 am – you’re wrong. I used to work in lower Manhattan and tried using the A from Mott Avenue to Broadway Nassau. What a shlep.

  5. Thanks to our useless state reps Ari Brown and Patricia Canzoneri LIRR fares will be reduced to five dollars for Far Rockaway residents but raised for Five Towns residents. How is this fair???

  6. Remember to vote them out! They think that since we vote Republican they don’t need to do diddly squat for us. Say what you want about Todd Kaminsky but man was his office RESPONSIVE. If you had an issue his staff took care of it pronto. And he’d fight the LIRR tooth and nail. Didn’t appreciate him til I had to deal with both Brown and Canzoneri Fitzpatrick’s offices to no avail.
