Mayor Benjamin Weinstock and Ari Brown spoke with Police Commissioner Pat Ryder to discuss a concerning social media threat that specifically targeted entities within the Village.
A threat surfaced on social media platforms urging followers to engage in anti-Semitic and anti –Israel protests at two specific locations in the Village; one on Barnard Avenue and one on Central Avenue.
The Village Board is being proactive in seeking insights from Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder to ensure the safety and security of the Village and its residents.
Commissioner Ryder shed light on the genesis of the impending demonstration, originally intended for Oyster Bay by local Muslim groups. The Commissioner revealed that the scope of the demonstration has expanded, gaining traction among various other groups, consequently posing a wider potential risk. However, Commissioner Ryder provided reassurance by confirming that the Nassau County Police Department’s Intelligence Teams are actively engaged in monitoring and addressing the situation. Ryder emphasized that the NCPD is thoroughly equipped to handle the matter with diligence and proficiency.
The Village has remained in close contact with the Commissioner and the Fourth Precinct to closely monitor developments and remains vigilant and proactive in response to this situation, prioritizing the safety and well-being of its residents and establishments.
The situation remains fluid and the Police stress that IF YOU SEE SOMETHING – SAY SOMETHING. Always call 9-1-1 without hesitation, you could be saving someone’s life by simply dialing 3 digits on your phone.

The Auxiliary Police have been more visible than ever since the Village started their own unit. I see them all over; at houses of worship, Central Avenue, the park, throughout the village.
