Councilwoman Vickie Paladino at NYPD Oversight Hearing Expressing Her Complete Support

“Today I attended the Committee on Public Safety’s Oversight Hearing on examining NYPD Investigative Procedures and Safeguards Relating to Wrongful Convictions.

Once again Top Brass of the NYPD were grilled and scrutinized by a group of people who largely have no understanding of the job the NYPD does. While those testifying attended as prepared as they possibly could be for the questions asked, no answer was enough.

While wrongful convictions are a travesty and must be avoided at all costs, the fact is in New York City more often than not individuals are wrongfully released. Career criminals are continually released without bail and illegal immigrants commit heinous crimes and are not held, much less deported from this country.

Rather than scrutinizing law enforcement and investigating wrongful convictions, this Council should be focused on empowering the police to take back New York City’s streets.”
