Recent reports of antisemitic incidents against Jewish students and teachers at Origins High School are particularly troubling. The latest development includes an NYPD investigation into a frightening death threat directed at Jewish teachers at the High School.
Similarly troubling and unacceptable, however, is the response from the Department of Education. During this disturbing time of rising antisemitism, diminishing and downplaying victim accounts and serious allegations is not productive. Further, there continues to be a lack of accountability from administrators.
The Jewish Caucus calls for an immediate, comprehensive, and independent investigation into the allegations surrounding antisemitism and hostile environment at Origins High School, as well as transparency in the findings so that those responsible for any wrongdoing or inaction can be held accountable and an appropriate remediation plan can be implemented.
