Three Baltimore City firefighters were killed and another was critically injured when a vacant rowhome partially collapsed as crews battled a blaze in southwest Baltimore Monday morning.
“Today, Baltimore has lost three of the bravest among us: Lt. Paul Butrim, Firefighter/Paramedic Kelsey Sadler, and EMT/Firefighter Kenny Lacayo,” Mayor Brandon Scott said. “All made the ultimate sacrifice. For that, Baltimore owes them the deepest gratitude and respect.”
“This is a gut-wrenching tragedy for our city, the Baltimore City Fire Department, and most importantly the families of our firefighters,” continued Scott. “There are no words to describe the pain and the severity of the losses we have suffered today.”
John McMaster, an EMT/firefighter, is on life support in critical but stable condition, according to Dr. Thomas Scalea, Physician in Chief at the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.
FDNY mourns the loss of these three brave heroes Lt. Paul Butrim, FF. Kenny Lacayo and FF Kelsey Sadler. The prayers of the Department are with FF. John McMaster and all of their families. https://t.co/ljJf09ClaF
