The Kumah Project is Shaking Things Up in the Five Towns

At the heels of another spectacular summer of YLX, the most popular summer learning program for boys in the 5 Towns and Far Rockaway, Rabbi Aryeh Dachs is starting another incredible, and necessary community initiative, The Kumah Project. The Kumah Project is an extracurricular after-school program for boys. Boys will have the option to join classes in art, gymnastics, music, carpentry and more.

Rabbi Dachs explains he was inspired by the work he saw from a similar program in Lakewood. “It is plain to see that these sorts of extracurricular activities are critical for kids yet, for many, they are out of reach. The cost for private lessons can be prohibitive, and group programming in a kosher environment is not easy to find.”

The Kumah Project teamed up with The Gural JCC to make the project a reality. Boys can join 1 of 4 unique courses. Each course is held once a week for 6 weeks at the Gural JCC campus on Central Ave., in Lawrence. They plan to run four 6-week sessions throughout the year. Each session will have new courses to choose from. The first class each night is open for boys in 4th and 5th grades and the second class is for boys in 6th – 8th grades. They are committed to keeping the cost low and working with families to make sure the programming is available for everyone.
