US Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy, has canceled an event with Representative Rashida Tlaib that was scheduled to take place in Congress on Wednesday, commemorating what Tlaib called the “catastrophe” of Israel’s establishment.

The event was organized by groups accused of glorifying terrorism against Israel and spreading anti-Semitic messages. McCarthy announced the cancellation on Twitter, adding that he would host a bipartisan discussion instead, honoring the 75th anniversary of the US-Israel relationship.

“Let me be very clear: America is grateful for our friendship with Israel” said Speaker McCarthy. “We are a better nation because of it. And we must never shy away from defending it.”

The event was ultimately held at the Dirksen Senate building, instead of the House side, after the location change, they could not secure permits to allow filming.
