In a concerning development, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reported that a rocket was fired from Palestinian Authority (PA)-controlled territory in Judea and Samaria this morning (Monday). The rocket, originating from the city of Jenin, landed within PA-controlled territory and did not pose any immediate threat to Israeli communities. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

The incident sheds light on the ongoing efforts by Palestinian Arab terrorist groups to smuggle and manufacture rockets in Judea and Samaria. They aim to emulate the tactics used in the Gaza Strip, where thousands of rockets have been launched at Israeli population centers since the 2005 Disengagement.

Just last month, the Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, revealed the dismantling of an Islamic Jihad terrorist cell involved in the production of rockets in Jenin. The cell had been operating under the instructions of the terrorist organization’s leadership based in Gaza.

Highlighting the seriousness of the situation, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar stated, “In recent weeks, we thwarted a cell in the area of the Jenin refugee camp that had already begun producing rockets and launchers in order to fire rockets from Samaria to Israel as well. We see this as a dangerous precedent.” Bar emphasized the need to prevent Israeli towns such as Afula and Shaked from becoming targets of rocket attacks.

Subsequently, a group of terrorists circulated a video on social media claiming to show a failed attempt to launch a rocket toward the Jewish community of Shaked in Samaria. An accompanying note in Arabic stated that the next rocket would be more substantial, while the initial attempt failed.

The incident underscores the ongoing threat posed by terrorist groups in Judea and Samaria and their relentless pursuit of rocket capabilities. The IDF remains vigilant in its efforts to safeguard Israeli communities and respond swiftly to any potential threats.
