In preparation for the highly anticipated New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square, Mayor Eric Adams held a press conference to address the security measures in place for the event. Joined by Deputy Commissioner Tarik Sheppard, Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, and Times Square Alliance President Tom Harris, Mayor Adams highlighted the collaborative efforts of multiple agencies to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for the hundreds of thousands expected to attend.

The press conference emphasized the city’s commitment to public safety, acknowledging the NYPD’s expertise in managing large-scale events. Mayor Adams expressed confidence in the NYPD’s ability to maintain order, citing the department’s successful handling of numerous protests and events throughout the year.

Anti-Israel protests are expected over the New Year’s Eve, in NYC. According to Mayor Adams, since the October 7th massacre there have been over 400 pro-Palestine protests in the big apple.

Key points from the press conference include:

Security Measures: The NYPD, in collaboration with various agencies, is implementing a comprehensive security plan for New Year’s Eve. The extensive security apparatus includes uniformed officers, special operations units, counterterrorism teams, K9 units, aviation units, and drones.

Crowd Expectations: Times Square is anticipated to host hundreds of thousands of people, marking a significant increase from previous years. The Mayor encouraged attendees to use public transportation and adhere to safety guidelines. Prohibited items include large backpacks, duffle bags, and alcoholic beverages.

Protest Preparedness: Addressing concerns about potential protests, Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey assured that there are no specific credible threats. The NYPD is well-prepared to handle any protests that may arise during the New Year’s Eve festivities, with an expanded security zone and a vigilant approach to maintaining public order.

Social Media Monitoring: The NYPD continues to monitor social media platforms for any potential threats or planned disruptions. The department emphasized its year-round commitment to monitoring social media for public safety.

Technology Deployment: Advanced technology, such as drones strategically positioned around the festivities, will provide law enforcement with real-time situational awareness. This technology allows for a comprehensive overview of the event and swift responses to any emerging incidents.

Commissioner’s Absence: Commissioner Keechant Sewell Caban was absent from the press conference due to prior commitments in the Dominican Republic. Mayor Adams emphasized that the NYPD functions as a well-coordinated team, and Commissioner Caban’s absence does not hinder the department’s operational efficiency.

As the city gears up for one of the largest New Year’s Eve celebrations, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants. The NYPD’s dedication to maintaining public safety and order underscores the city’s commitment to hosting a successful event to welcome 2024.

  1. How did he allow todays protest by JFK – where one cannot even drop off passengers before being yelled at by their workers? Forget double parking, but these unemployed protesters allowed all over New York.
Start praying for Rudi, Trump to come back and make order – you should see his mostlyout of town police officers with no clue where Penn Station is.
