Councilwoman Vickie Paladino joined Channel 7 to discuss the squatter situation in New York City and her recent press conference.
“This has become an epidemic in New York where homeowners are no longer able to protect their property. My office has been on the job long before Channel 7 picked up the coverage. Starting back in 2022, when I confronted a well known squatter in my district who had been terrorizing his neighbors for years. My office followed that case through until the squatter was rightfully evicted and removed from the property.
Stay tuned for more news on my legislation that that will ideally lengthen the period of time it takes squatters to develop rights from 30 days to 180 days, or six months. We are currently drafting the legislation and hoping to unveil it in the coming weeks.”
